Health benefits of Rose Geranium Oil

2023-04-14

Rose Geranium is native to South Africa. It is a herbaceous plant or a low shrub that blooms all year round. It is a very popular landscape plant all over the world.Rose geranium oil is a wonderful rose-scented essential oil that has been used in herbal medicines for centuries.

What is Rose Geranium Oil?

Rose geranium oil is extracted by steam distillation from the leaves and stems of the rose geranium plant. Rose geranium belongs to the genus Pelargonium, commonly known as fragrant geranium. These beautiful flowers are lightly scented with roses, with hints of clove, citrus, and lemongrass; however, the greatest scent comes from the plant's leaves.

According to research, rose geranium oil, leaf and flower extracts also have antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and insecticidal properties. Essential oils and extracts are also used in natural pesticides, herbal medicine and aromatherapy.

Benefits and Uses

1, Anti-inflammatory

The main components of this oil—citronellol, geraniol, and linalool—are known to have anti-inflammatory activity. A 2013 animal model showed that topical application of rose geranium oil helped reduce inflammation in the paws and ears of rats. The study concluded that essential oils may have good potential for the development of anti-inflammatory drugs.

How to use: In cases of rheumatoid arthritis, mouth sores, and bacterial or fungal skin infections, apply a few drops topically, diluted with a carrier oil, to reduce inflammation and pain.

2. Relaxant in aromatherapy

Rose geranium oil is often used in aromatherapy to calm anxiety and other stressful conditions. Anecdotal evidence suggests that this oil has antidepressant properties and can help lift your spirits. It is useful during mood swings associated with hormonal changes because it is both soothing and energizing.

How to use: Add 5-6 drops to a diffuser and add citrus Neroli, Bergamot or Sweet Orange for an upliftingly scented space.

3,Skincare

Rose geranium oil is often used to treat skin conditions due to its astringent, antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Topical usage with a carrier oil can help reduce acne and eliminate bacterial infections. While large studies are limited, a herbal blend of rose geranium oil and Oliveria decumbens oil helped improve collagen formation and wound healing in mice.

How to Use: This essential oil helps balance serum, which is useful for skin that is not too oily or too dry. Use it with a skin-enhancing carrier oil that is suitable for your skin.

 4,May Relieve Nerve Pain

A mixture of rose geranium and one or more oils such as lavender, bergamot, blue chamomile, eucalyptus, or tea tree can help significantly reduce neuropathic pain.

How to use: Apply the oil blend topically to the affected area to help relieve pain. However, be sure to do a patch test on your arm to avoid a rash.
