Rose Geranium is native to South Africa. It is a herbaceous plant or a low shrub that blooms all year round. It is a very popular landscape plant all over the world.Rose geranium oil is a wonderful rose-scented essential oil that has been used in herbal medicines for centuries.
What is Rose Geranium Oil?
Rose geranium oil is extracted by steam distillation from the leaves and stems of the rose geranium plant. Rose geranium belongs to the genus Pelargonium, commonly known as fragrant geranium. These beautiful flowers are lightly scented with roses, with hints of clove, citrus, and lemongrass; however, the greatest scent comes from the plant's leaves.
According to research, rose geranium oil, leaf and flower extracts also have antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and insecticidal properties. Essential oils and extracts are also used in natural pesticides, herbal medicine and aromatherapy.
Benefits and Uses
The main components of this oil—citronellol, geraniol, and linalool—are known to have anti-inflammatory activity.
