Terpenes are basically the “default setting” in essential oils. They’re in almost every oil.
What do they do?
They help with antibacterial effects, purifying the air, and boosting your mood.
But here’s where people go wrong:
A lot of citrus oils — like lemon and bergamot — are high in limonene,
which means they’re phototoxic.
So if you put them on your face during the day…
you’re basically asking for dark spots.
Also, don’t use them straight at high concentration — always dilute with a carrier oil.
And one more thing — they oxidize really fast,
so once you open them, don’t let them sit forever.
That’s why so many people think essential oils “don’t work” —
they’re just using them wrong.
Follow for the next episode — we’ll break down another chemical family.
